De La Salle Inducts 29 Students into National Honor Society
De La Salle Institute proudly inducted 29 students from its Institute and Lourdes Hall Campuses into the Br. J. Richard Rush, FSC Chapter of the National Honor Society. Congratulations to all of the recently inducted National Honor Society students for their achievements.
Nazareth Academy Delivers “The Glass Slipper”
Nazareth Academy participated in “The Glass Slipper Project”. The Glass Slipper Project collects gently-worn formal dresses, bridesmaid dresses and prom dresses, as well as shoes, evening bags, jewelry and unused makeup. The goal of the project is to give young lower income women in the Chicagoland area the opportunity to select prom dresses, free of charge and attend their proms feeling confident. The student body embraced the mission and gathered over 110 dresses.
St. Bernadette Honors Those Who Made a Difference
The second graders of St. Bernadette School researched and brought in a picture of a person who made a difference in our world for February 's Black History Month project. Students created a quilt made out of yarn, paper and pictures.
Shamrocks Raise Over $5,000 to Help Fight Breast Cancer
The students at Saint Patrick High School raised over $5,000 for the Y-ME National Breast Cancer Organization with a “Think Pink” initiative. The Saint Patrick Staff purchased a total of 470 pink t-shirts. The shirts were then sold to students and faculty for $10, with the head basketball coach adding $1 for each shirt sold. Everyone was encouraged to wear pink shirts for the Shamrocks’ IHSA State Playoff basketball game against Lincoln Park.
Four Queen of Peace Students are Golden
Golden Apple announced the one hundred members of the Golden Apple Scholars of Illinois Class of 2008, four of which included Queen of Peace students. As Golden Apple Scholars, they will receive $2,500 per year for four years paid directly to their colleges or universities. Nominees complete a written application, provide ACT scores, and furnish transcripts to Golden Apple. From these completed applications, Golden Apple Award-winning teachers choose finalists to be interviewed and selected as Scholars. The Golden Apple Scholars of Illinois is a highly competitive program that seeks the brightest of Illinois youth. Over 1,400 students applied this year for the program.
Students’ Gifts Cheer Hospitalized Children
The students at St. Juliana School reached out to children being treated in the emergency room at Swedish Covenant Hospital by collecting new stuffed animals. The toys were taken to Swedish Covenant Hospital to help comfort children who are treated in the emergency room. The St. Juliana students hoped that through this act of generosity, children who must visit the emergency room would feel a little less alone.

Fr. Carl Morello of St. Paul of the Cross Named Distinguished Pastor
Chicago, IL (March 5, 2008) - Fr. Carl Morello, pastor of St. Paul of the Cross Parish in Park Ridge, is one of eight pastors from across the country to receive the first Distinguished Pastor Award from the National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA). Since becoming pastor in 1996, Fr. Morello has made it clear from his writings and from the pulpit that St. Paul of the Cross Parish is dedicated to the future of Catholic education.

Begins with 30 th Anniversary Mass at Holy Name Cathedral
Chicago, IL (January 30, 2008) —Catholic elementary and secondary school students from across the Archdiocese of Chicago will gather at Holy Name Cathedral, State and Superior streets at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 5, for the 30th annual liturgy commemorating African-American Heritage Month.

Visits by Cardinal George and Auxiliary Bishops Highlight Activities
Chicago, IL January 25, 2008 — Catholic Schools Light the Way is the theme of Catholic Schools Week 2008 that will be celebrated in Archdiocese of Chicago Catholic Schools in Cook and Lake counties between Sunday, January 27 and Saturday, February 2. This annual, nationwide celebration is sponsored by the National Catholic Educational Association, and will feature local school activities including special Masses, open houses and visits from civic representatives and Archdiocesan officials, including Francis Cardinal George, O.M.I., Archbishop of Chicago.

These individuals are being recognized for their outstanding, unique and innovative accomplishments in seven categories: The Arts, Behind the Scenes, Catholic School Identity and Mission, Innovation and Creativity, Leadership, Rising Star and Technology.
