| CHICAGO (January
22, 2004) – Fourteen Archdiocese of Chicago Catholic elementary
and high school teachers will be honored for their accomplishments
in a 10:30 a.m. ceremony today at
St. Andrew Elementary School, 1710 W. Addison St., Chicago.
The 14 Catholic school teachers will be presented with “Heart
of the School Awards for Teacher Recognition” by Nicholas
M. Wolsonovich, Ph.D., superintendent of schools. “These men
and women being honored today who dedicate themselves to teaching
in the Archdiocese of Chicago Catholic schools are truly the pulse
of our Catholic community. Their unique, outstanding contributions
to our students’ educational and spiritual development –
inside and outside of the classroom – are immeasurable,”
said Wolsonovich.
The awards recognize outstanding, unique and innovative accomplishments
of individual teachers at Archdiocese of Chicago schools. Two awards
will be presented in each of seven categories:
? The Arts: Erin Wade of Chicago, who teaches art at Holy Trinity
High School, 1443 W. Division St., Chicago; and Patricia Newman
of Chicago, who teaches art at St. Francis Xavier Elementary School
in LaGrange, Ill.
? Evangelization and Religious Education: Susan Talbot of Franklin
Park, Ill., who teaches pre-kindergarten at Cardinal Bernardin Early
Childhood Center, 1940 N. Kenmore, Chicago; and Linda Baltikas of
Westchester, Ill., who teaches religion at Queen of Peace High School
in Burbank, Ill.
? Innovation and Creativity: TeNnile Goff of Chicago, who teaches
third grade at St. James Elementary School, 2920 S. Wabash Ave.,
Chicago; and Marge Frailey of Chicago, who teaches world history,
religion and reading at St. Cornelius Elementary School, 5252 N.
Long Ave., Chicago.
? Leadership: Nicole Loomos of Chicago, who teaches English and
literature at St. Andrew Elementary School, 1710 W. Addison, Chicago;
and Diana Tesauro of Chicago, who teaches English at Mother Theodore
Guerin High School, 8001 W. Belmont Ave., River Grove, Ill.
? Peace and Justice: Fran Maloney of Chicago, who teaches English
and religion at Nazareth Academy in LaGrange Park, Ill.; and Maureen
Thompson of Oak Forest, Ill., who teaches English at St. Gerald
Elementary School in Oak Lawn, Ill.
? Rising Star: Christine Ruswick of Tinley Park, Ill., who teaches
kindergarten at Cardinal Joseph Bernardin Elementary School in Orland
Hills, Ill.; and John Przekota of Chicago, who teaches world studies
at St. Patrick High School, 5900 W. Belmont Ave., Chicago.
? Technology: Kathleen Biga of Downers Grove, Ill., who teaches
math and computer science at Nazareth Academy in LaGrange Park,
Ill,; and Alice Schmeelk of Lake Zurich, Ill., who teaches biology
at St. Scholastica Academy at 7416 N. Ridge Blvd., Chicago.
The Heart of the School award winners each will receive a pin,
a plaque and a monetary award provided by a corporate sponsor.
