Chicago, IL (March 5, 2008) - Fr. Carl Morello, pastor of St. Paul of the Cross Parish in Park Ridge, is one of eight pastors from across the country to receive the first Distinguished Pastor Award from the National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA). Since becoming pastor in 1996, Fr. Morello has made it clear from his writings and from the pulpit that St. Paul of the Cross Parish is dedicated to the future of Catholic education.

“With the guidance of Fr. Morello, our students grow in their relationship with Christ,” said Lorelei Bobroff, principal of St. Paul of the Cross elementary school. “He supports programs that foster catechesis and faith development and he shares the responsibility for education ministry,” Bobroff continued.

Fr. Morello considers St. Paul of the Cross elementary school an asset that contributes to the vitality of the parish, further noting that contributions of the entire parish are critical to ensure the vitality of the school. Under Fr. Morello’s leadership, significant improvements in the school’s facilities have been achieved, including the completion of a $7.7 million addition in 2003.

A very energetic man, Father Morello participates in every aspect and activity of the school community and is often seen at first sacraments, school Masses and prayer services, concerts and programs, extracurricular and athletic events, graduations, fundraisers, retreats, Curriculum Night and school board meetings.

On March 25, Fr. Morello will be honored at special ceremonies and a banquet on the opening evening of the 105 th annual NCEA Convention at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis. .
